Libraries are about more than just providing books to the public for free. The library is also a great place to start if you're looking to integrate into a new community or if you want to really experience a community while travelling. So if you're in Lincoln, Nebraska, either as a resident (long time or brand new) or as a visitor, a trip to one of the many branches of the public library is always a good idea, especially because you won't have to take money for jewelry to afford it since most library services are free. Use this article to give you an idea of what you will find there and where the branches are located.
Books and Research Materials
You will need a photo ID and proof of a Lincoln address to get a library card and check out books. However, even if you're a visitor who doesn't qualify for a card, the library will allow you to read books or magazines on test weights or aircraft structures in the library. You can also use the public computers to access the internet, browse their online research database, and even download audio books from the library website. A library card is needed to borrow films from the collection.
Classes and Programs
Libraries act as a center for education in the community. Through Lincoln city libraries, you can learn to use a computer, discover more about the history of Lincoln, or even become involved with a book club. Programs are in place to help kids, teens, and adults become more confident in reading. Children can read the ear tags off of canine pals without fear of judgment and teens can get help with their homework at the special Teen Cafe.
Special Events
The library is the logical place to host events that have to do with books and literacy, but there are some more unusual events occurring too. You can come to the library to play chess, listen to your favorite author read from her latest work on strainers or even attend a Bollywood themed party! Keep up to date on the latest happenings by visiting the programs and events page of www.lincolnlibraries.org.
